Self-host

One binary. One folder. One server.

Checkend runs on your server only. There is no cloud version. Your analytics data stays with you, and Checkend sends nothing to us.

Checkend is not released yet. The install commands on this page use placeholders. The installer, the image and the downloads come with the first release.
Linux server

The one-line installer

Run it as root. Give your domain for automatic TLS.

curl -fsSL [INSTALL_URL] | sudo sh -s -- \
  --domain stats.example.com

The installer checks the release signature and the checksum. It makes a system user, a data folder and a systemd unit. At the end, it prints a one-time setup URL.

Docker

The container image

A small image that runs as a user without root. A Docker Compose example with automatic TLS comes with it.

docker run -d --name checkend -p 8080:8080 \
  -v checkend:/var/lib/checkend [IMAGE]
docker logs checkend 2>&1 | grep setup

For automatic TLS, use the Docker Compose file. The install guide has the steps.

What you need

A Linux server

amd64 or arm64 with systemd and glibc 2.36 or newer, for example Debian 12 or Ubuntu 24.04. Docker works on every system.

A domain name

A DNS name that points at the server, with ports 80 and 443 open. Automatic TLS and passkeys need it. Without a domain, use an SSH tunnel.

Disk space

About 1 GB for the program files, plus your data. The first start downloads about 85 MB of DuckDB extensions and the DB-IP location file.

Day two is part of the product

Automatic TLS

Give --domain, and Checkend gets and renews a Let's Encrypt certificate.

Backups

Back up while the server runs, to a folder or to an S3-compatible bucket. Restore with one command.

Retention and disk guard

Raw events stay 24 months by default. Rollups and search history stay. A disk guard protects the server.

checkend doctor

One command checks the disk, the key file, GeoIP, the extensions, the backups, the jobs and TLS.

No database server

SQLite for metadata, DuckDB and Parquet files for events, an embedded event log. All in one data folder.

The ce client

A small client for macOS, Linux and Windows. Your laptop, CI and agents use it. It never opens the database.
